Favorite Name of the Month: Antigravity
When I saw the name Google Antigravity launch this month, I stopped scrolling. As a namer, I am always looking for words that do more than just label a product. I look for words that make a promise. Antigravity does exactly that. It immediately suggests that the heavy lifting is over. In a tech landscape that can often feel dense and complicated, this name promises effortlessness.
Think about what AI actually does for us. It takes the massive weight of data, coding, and repetitive tasks and carries it so we don’t have to. “Antigravity” captures that functional benefit perfectly. It isn’t just about floating; it is about defying the constraints that usually hold us down. It turns the hard work of computing into something that feels like magic. It is a brilliant metaphor for a tool designed to remove friction from our work.
The name also stands out in a crowded market. We see so many AI names focused on “intelligence,” “brains,” or “synapses.” Antigravity goes in a completely different direction. It focuses on the feeling of using the product rather than the mechanics of how it works. It feels futuristic, optimistic, and surprisingly human. It implies that with this tool, your work won’t just get done—it will fly.
I have to tip my hat to the namers at Lexicon Branding for this one. This is a masterclass in metaphorical naming.
Side note: I must also give Google props for not creating another “magic sparkle” logo. I’m a big fan of the amoeba/squid/alien/letter a icon.
